Desktop NAS with Nexenta?

Added by Alan Batie 11 months ago

Just wishing as I search for a simple, affordable solution...

A 2/4/6 drive desktop NAS ala ReadyNAS that runs Nexenta so I can get real snapshotting and replication... I could probably afford a couple hundred $$ premium and don't even want the add on "apps" the desktop nas world has...

How about running community edition on an HP microserver? --> http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/15351-15351-4237916-4237918-4237917-4248009.html?dnr=1

I run that at home for a media NAS.

Interesting, I hadn't seen those before. At the risk of being sacrilegious in a nexenta forum, what I'm leaning towards is: http://www.ixsystems.com/storage/ix/home-office-storage/freenas-mini.html

FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD, which I like a lot better than opensolaris to start with, and with Oracle support questionable...

But even so, I think a comparable product would be a good idea for Nexenta... I'll look into the HP product though, it'll run either...

Bzzzt. The HP fails by not having hotswap drive bays...

If anyone has a spare x86 ReadyNAS system, I may post something in a few days on how to load NexentaStor on them. I am currently running it on a ReadyNAS Pro (6 bay) system with no issues.
