Flaky disk, pulled, UI still shows "ONLINE"

I had a flaky disk in one of my systems that I pulled to replace with a new one. However, the volume management page in the UI shows that the pulled disk is still online, but that it now has a size of 0.00KB. The pool as a whole is still ONLINE as well, not DEGRADED. I opened up a SSH session and the pool still reported everything was OK. It wasn't until I fired off a zpool scrub that it noticed that the disk was missing.

Ok, and this brings up a new question. How do I scan for new disks? The new one I added isn't showing up.

Nevermind, I found another thread that helped me through the rescan and replacement. Still would like an answer on why the UI and zpool status command didn't show that the drive was degraded.
